my camera is quickly becoming a new obsession of mine. i've been trying to get about an hour of shooting every day. i find it both incredibly relaxing and artistically stimulating. reminds me of.. hm.. something else I enjoy.. oh yeah, MUSIC!
introducing a new format for the blog: the music+pictures combo. every now and again i'll pair a picture or series of pictures and a song. the reason for the pairing will surely vary from post to post, but i'll do my best to explain it. we'll kick it off today with regina spektor's beautiful song "blue lips."
as you listen to the song, scroll down through the pictures. take time to look at each one, noticing everything you can about it. there are only 9, so you have plenty of time in the three and a half minutes of the song to check each one out.
ok, ready? hit play and then scroll down.
did you enjoy that? what connections did you see in the pictures and music? jot it down, because i'll explain my thinking in the next paragraph, and it's really easy to adopt someone else's thoughts and forget your own.
i thought the bleak first image was a good fit for the static beginning. the next image, where you see the sun through the leaves, is the background piano starting around :13 getting more and more intense. the bee is sorta the main character of the song. the lyric "he took a step and then felt tired/he said i'll rest a little while" reminds me of the bee walking on the flower. when he goes to step again, the "forest" of the next image has grown around him. the next three images were my favorite blue pictures. the wind in each image seems appropriate for the upbeat feeling of the main portion of the song. the last two images are the opposite book end for the first two: this time we see the water through the trees instead of the sun and then the return to the water.
"the pictures in his mind arose/and began to breathe"
not sure if i agree with her that blue is the most human color, though. blue humans are usually in trouble!
let me know what you think about the music+pictures post. i have a few more "features" that i'm going to introduce in the near future, so stay tuned!
enjoy,
