maurice andre was one of my earliest trumpet influences. my library had a few of his CDs and they were some of the earliest recorded trumpet sounds i heard. i remember hearing his recording of the telemann concerto before i knew what a piccolo trumpet was and being shocked that a trumpet could play that high. then, i learned about the piccolo trumpet, realized how difficult it was to play, and was even more blown away!
i was always interested in the instrument after hearing maurice and wynton's impeccable recordings and eventually got one of my own. i was having trouble learning to play it, so i went back and flooded my mind with maurice's sound. i took a week long trip to myrtle beach with my buddies during my last year of high school and listened to maurice non-stop. i know it sounds crazy, but when i got back, i was immediately a completely different piccolo player. i listened to him play all day, every day, and wanted to play my trumpet so bad! what an inspiration.
take a listen to this track- you'll be glad you did.
enjoy,
