what's not to love about no doubt? within the first few seconds of this track there's a hip trumpet melody and some bumpin' beats- sounds about right to me. the guitar reminds me just a little bit of nancy sinatra's band. remember?
it's funny, but no doubt always reminds me of the game super mario 64. my brother and i used to sit in his room for hours- me playing mario, him watching, and both of us listening to no doubt. their album "tragic kingdom" was among the first 12 cds i received from a cd order club when i was around 8 or 9 years old. i loved every track on that album. it quickly became my soundtrack! i listened to the CD on my first boombox- a nice sony that i saved up $100 for. (i was incredibly disappointed when it rang up to $106 with michigan tax, but my mom helped me out. what a couple of awesome parents i've been blessed with!)
sheesh, this song must be affecting me. clearly, "bathwater" is all about nostalgia. i love the idea of nostalgia. there's a cool sort of painful happiness inherent to the concept. if you ask me, music is the perfect medium to express it.
"i still love to wash in your old bathwater/you make me feel like you couldn't love another"
maybe it's just my attempt at positivity, but the happy side of nostalgia always seems to outweigh the painful side. i love that.
and i love memories.
enjoy,

I remember when you bought that boom box and I had to explain "tax" to you :-( I love this song and I love you, too! XO
