larkin dodgen & josh turner - rainy day

we’ve been having a whole lot of rain lately.  lucky for you guys, i have the cure to a boring rainy day right here!

i found josh turner’s youtube page about a year ago when i was looking for instructional guitar videos.  in addition to his awesome how-to videos, josh has a huge collection of amazing covers.

boy am i glad i came across “rainy day” by larkin dodgen.  this song is so good!  larkin wrote this song for a songwriting competition and i wouldn’t be the least bit surprised if she won.  i’ve always been so impressed with composers- it’s very difficult!  her song is so natural and cheery.  as much as i love the song, i might like their performance even more.  larkin’s voice is incredible- so effortless, clear, and beautiful.  i love that josh features his friends in many of his videos.  josh’s playing is energetic, stylish, and just so cool.

i love how larkin addresses the classic subject of a rainy day in a new light.  instead of taking the typical route, she 

embraces the gloom!  she sees it as the perfect excuse to the spend the day with a special certain someone.  these lyrics are perfect-

“clouds storming, no need to close the blinds/I hear the chimes, blowing from outside/kiss my lips, so this is the good life/oh you raindrops can splash all you like”

“the sky is gray, but all i see is you/yeah, i could get used to this view”

this song is too cool!  please, please,please check out josh’s other youtube videos.  there’s even a recent song featuring larkin again.  these guys are the real deal!
